Reading Friedman's Hot, Flat and Crowded has gotten me thinking about alternative energy sources that we could possibly be looking into. I don't know if any of these have already been researched or are being put into practice but here is some ideas that I have come up with on my own.
Using electrolytes from salt water (or other salts) to create power
Finding a way to synthetically reproduce the process of photosynthesis to create energy
I know, from doing experiments in my Chemistry classes this first semester, that the first is very plausible. Such an experiment was using salt water and other electrolyte solutions to power a small toy motorcycle. However, I just don't know if using would be used successfully on a greater scale. It would be interesting to do some research on this to see if this to see if this has already been proposed as and idea for alternative energy sources.
As for the second, I'm not really sure how that would work. I just know that for plants at least that: sunlight = photosynthesis = glucose = energy. There must be a way to reproduce this idea using today technology, so that we can turn such a process into something that we humans can use, something that will be green and non-carbon emitting.
Great info, i glad to see this blog, such an informative article, Thanks for share this.
