The Discovery of Stumbleupon

So I have finally discovered Stumbleupon. Let me tell you this right now, it has the ability to keep you entertained for hours. So if you are looking for something to do, maybe you should check it out. But for those of you who have things better to do, be warned.

However, it has been good, especially when I've been at a lack of ideas on what to blog on. Many times you discover things you've never even heard of before. And, it all relates to things you are interested in. Check off topics that you like (art, environment, music, history, computers etc.) and it pulls up all sorts of sites. Maybe this is why its so easy to get caught up in it.

Ok. Ok. So what does this have to do with the topic of my blog? Well, it was more or less a "stumble" I made a few days ago, across the idea that there is a whole new culture that is emerging in the U.S. and other places around the world. A culture of people who have chosen to live off the grid.

Now, what does "off the grid mean", well, it means not being dependent on power companies to supply energy, growing your own garden, going back to the old ways of living.

There is even websites which are solely devoted to teaching people how they can live off the grid, and about those who already are and how they are doing it.

I think its an interesting concept, especially in a world where many of us are struggling with the economy. Not having to pay for electricity or city water can be a cut back on many costs. (Using a well and installing alternative energy sources can be a solution to these) Of course, not all of us are going to be wiling to go completely off the grid, and give up on many of the amenities that we are so dependent upon to make our lives easier. I for one, would be willing to try it, but I don't know if I would be able to live that way.

Each to his own, right?...But you don't have to give up modern living completely...check out this video....
